Building Dartmoor Compositions Layer by Layer
Strong landscape compositions are often created by building an image layer by layer. Foreground detail, middle ground structure and distant background elements all work together to create depth, balance and atmosphere within a photograph.
In my latest video, Dartmoor: Learning to Build Composition, I share my approach to composition and the thought processes I use to simplify scenes and build more engaging landscape images.

Dartmoor is a landscape filled with natural structure, shape and atmosphere, making it an inspiring place to develop compositional skills. The more time spent carefully observing the relationship between different elements in the landscape, the stronger and more balanced compositions can become.
Whether you are new to landscape photography or refining your creative approach, I hope this video encourages you to think more intentionally about how you build compositions within the landscape.
