Photographing a Snowy Dartmoor with the NEW Vallerret Skadi Gloves

Landscape photography, a new pair of thermal gloves, Dartmoor, snow, and my Nikon Z7.  What's not to love.  So, join me in my latest video as I photograph a snowy Dartmoor and tell you all about my new @Vallerret Skadi Zipper Mitt LRS Gloves.

The Best Photography Gloves - Improved!

Best is of course a subjective term. Different conditions can require different gloves. Perhaps I’d be better describing my Vallerret Skadi Zipper Mitt PSP gloves as my favourite winter photography glove. Well, that was until Vallerret released the Skadi Zipper Mitt LRS gloves <INSERT AFFLIATE LINK>! A new and improved version of their deep winter mitts.

In the video below I not only photography Dartmoor with a rare dusting of snow, but I also share with you my thoughts on these new gloves from Vallerret.

If you’d like to purchase a pair of the Vallerret Skadi Zipper Mitt LRS gloves you can do so directly from Vallerret right here.

Where Are the Landscape Photographs?

It’s normally at this point in the blog post that I share the photographs I captured in the video, and you may be wondering where they are. There’re not here because I’ve already published them in the blog post Photographing Dartmoor in the Snow earlier this year. The reason for the time gap between video and photographs is that the video featured gloves that Vallerret hadn’t announced yet, so I kept the video back until now.

Be sure to check out the blog post Photographing Dartmoor in the Snow to not only see the photographs from that video, but some of the other snowy photos I captured from Dartmoor back in January.

Vallerret Milford Photography Gloves - A Landscape Photographers Review

Landscape photography can be a miserable activity if your hands are wet and cold. In this video, I head out to the wilds of Dartmoor to capture some landscape photographs and to share with you my thoughts on the new Milford gloves from Vallerret. Are these photography gloves the perfect balance between warmth and waterproofing?

The Importance of Photography Gloves

I’ve learnt the hard way that having appropriate clothing for landscape photography is as important as the camera gear that I use. Everything from socks, boots, trousers, base layers, jackets, hats and gloves are as important as which camera and lens I take with me. Nothing crushes your creativity like being cold or wet. I recently purchased an expensive down jacket for a photography trip to Iceland. It seemed a lot of money to spend at the time, but never once did I regret my purchase standing on a beach taking photographs of icebergs in a howling wind!

As there is no such thing as one combination of camera and lens to suit all landscape photography scenarios, nor is there such thing as one pair of gloves that fits all weather conditions. Last year I told you about the Vallerret Skadi Mitts I use for winter photography. These are perfect gloves for deep winter photography, and they were another item I did not regret taking to Iceland.

I’ve mentioned Iceland a couple of times, but most of my photography is from Dartmoor. The weather up there can be varied, to say the least. That is why I need different clothing to suit the weather, and the right glove is no different.

In the video below I look at a new pair of gloves from Vallerret (which they kindly sent to me) called Milford. These gloves are designed for mild winter conditions, but they also come with a waterproof shell. This should make them ideal for when the conditions are a bit wetter up on Dartmoor (a regular occurrence). So, join me up on Dartmoor for some landscape photography and I’ll tell you what I think about these new gloves.

If you'd like to purchase a pair of these gloves, or any from the Vallerret range you can do so here - https://photographygloves.com/products/milford-photography-glove?rfsn=5248745.df014f

Winter Landscape Photography On Dartmoor and Vallerret Gloves

In my latest video I head to Belstone for some Dartmoor snow and to capture some wintery landscape photographs. I’ll also tell you all about my new Vallerret photography gloves.

Dartmoor Snow

There can’t be many landscape photographers who are familiar with Dartmoor National Park that don’t excited about the possibility of snowfall. I’m certainly one of them and this was confirmed a few weeks ago when I found myself checking the weather forecast a lot more than usual! The forecast had been predicting varying levels of snowfall but it always seem that at the last minute, the forecast would change.

This went on for a few days. After spending days looking at my packed camera bag, I finally decided enough was enough, and to hell with the forecast, I was going to head out the following morning. I didn’t necessarily need a complete blanket of snow to capture the images I was hoping to get. I just needed Dartmoor to look a bit wintery.

Belstone Common

The forecast for the following morning was for light snow showers, but more importantly than that were the forecasted sub-zero temperatures. To maximise my chance of getting those wintery conditions I needed to go somewhere on Dartmoor that had an elevated viewpoint. For me, Belstone Tor at 479 m is a great balance between elevation and journey time (driving and walking time).

In the video below you can see how I got on and how I went about capturing the photographs you can see in this blog post.

Vallerret Skadi Zipper Mitt Review

In the video, you will have also seen me talk about an essential item of photography gear for winter, the Vallerret Skadi Zipper Mitt. I’ve always suffered from cold hands and these gloves have been a welcome addition to my kit bag, especially on frosty Dartmoor mornings! As it was such a wintery morning when I was shooting this video, I thought it was a good time to share my thoughts on them.

If you’d like to pick up a pair of these gloves, then just click the link here.

Dartmoor Landscape Photographs

Below you will find the photographs I captured in the video. As a bonus, I’ve also included the first image I captured just before sunrise, so you can see the difference the morning light from the sun makes. I have to say though, even without the golden light I still really like that first photography.
